The Space Age: How To Give Art A Home

New York real estate demands more attention than anywhere else on earth. And when it comes to arts organizations finding space in the city, it's an ever-growing struggle. Despite the challenges, two local choreographers, John Jasperse and Jonah Bokaer have founded a new arts facility, the Center for Performance Research (CPR) and they're looking to break the mould in terms of how art and space relate. Stephen Sprouse: Art, Fashion and Cash Registers

The world again considers the legacy of iconic NY designer/artist Stephen Sprouse this month, with a new exhibition of Sprouse's fashion, paintings and accompanying multimedia opening today at Deitch Projects. So too, The Stephen Sprouse Book is being released to coincide and Louis Vuitton also launches a Sprouse-inspired fashion range today.

The National Arts Club's New Edge

New York's National Arts Club has been championing the arts since 1898. Its renowned membership has included the likes of Theodore Roosevelt, Mark Twain and Dwight D. Eisenhower, whilst current day members include such luminaries as Martin Scorsese, Ethan Hawke and Robert Redford.

The NAC's recent addition of a Contemporary Art Division has injected new life into the private club, with the NAC hosting some dynamic performances from Russian contemporary artist Andrey Bartenev as well as experimental ensemble FLUXCONCERT.

Michel Gondry: Unknown Treasures

Michel Gondry is one of the world's most vital filmmakers. His highly original and imaginative style has made the Academy Award-winning writer/director in demand across the planet. The auteur behind Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and The Science of Sleep first made a name for himself with groundbreaking music videos for Björk, The White Stripes and The Chemical Brothers and has since become a defining force in modern filmmaking.

A passionate advocator of art created outside of commercial institutions, Gondry recently released a new book, You’ll Like This Film Because You’re In It: The Be Kind Rewind Protocol which details his experiences with community filmmaking at Manhattan's Deitch Projects and at his home in Williamsburg.
